Through squishy sand, slippery, slidey surfaces in the sun, and Sweet Baby Ray’s sandwiches, the superb Issaquah XC squad ran stupendously at Lake Sammamish State Park on Saturday! After every race, it was so exciting to see so many of you smiling because of PRs and sub 21, sub 20, sub 19, sub whatever pesky barrier it was that you finally conquered. LOVED seeing the team support – especially those of you who came early or stayed until the end to cheer on your teammates. AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME.
**2 types of scoring for this meet**
Traditional: Scores based on varsity races combined. Top 5 runners from each team score, as usual.
Bellevue Invite scoring: Total of the places of each runner in their respective individual varsity race (all 8 runners contribute to the score).
Invite scoring: 10th
Invite scoring: 9th (this means the boys team runs deep!)
Congrats to Julia David Smith who, surprise surprise, took first overall!
Overall, a solid day for Issaquah. Thanks, kids, for always bringing such great energy and uplifting each other. As always, a huge thanks to all the fans for cheering our runners on! Hope everyone is having a relaxing Sunday 🙂 See ya at practice tomorrow!
What a beautiful day for a meet! These eagles did some fantastic running (or sliding, if you’re Jonathan Liu). Saw many strong Issy packs and fierce finishes, especially Stuti, who is now the latest recruit for the sprint squad. Also, KUDOS to you all for getting off the bus, organizing yourselves, and learning the course right away. Makes all of our lives easier 🙂
Boys earned a SOLID win with the scoring 5 in the top 6 (feat. a 1 thru 3 clean sweep! Dust em guys!)
Julia David Smith and Liam Heninger won their races
Julia David Smith also ran “definitely by far the fastest time by a girl on this course” according to Bothell Coach Shelby
Many season bests and PRs and all around! PROUD OF YOU KIDS.
As always, a big ol shout out to all the fans (the human and the furry kind…the doggo love is much appreciated).
It’s that time in the season when you should start to feel comfortable with your pre-race routine and know what gets you excited and ready to race. Josh Geisser would like to inform everyone that cantaloupe is a no-go right before a race…unless you’ve tested it and genuinely thrive off of cantaloupe. No surprises on race day is generally a good rule of thumb though. Take note of your thoughts on this race and the course, since we’ll be back at St. Edward in a few weeks!
Coming to a Lake Sammamish State Park near you is…the Bellevue Invite! This Saturday! So keep up that “power posing.” Refer to a quah girl if you do not know what that means.
Way to get after it yesterday Issy!! WINS ALL AROUND!!!! If anyone couldn’t tell from the hills, roots, rocks, slips, falls, falling over rocks, our new and exciting course is GRITTY. You all toughed it out, got up when you fell, and made the best of “Ellie’s Trail.” Running hard races like this is what ultimately will make you a stronger, faster, adaptable runner. No wimps allowed here.
2x winning: Both Girls and Boys Teams took the win over Newport
Scoring 5: David Smith (1), Hanson (2), Ryan (4), Anna Jensen (8), Pederson (11)
HUGE SHOUT OUT to all the volunteers who helped out!! You all did your jobs flawlessly, and the meet went very smoothly because of that. Still not sure how those 2 Newport girls got lost, but sometimes you just can’t save them all.
Take advantage of your eeeeasy recovery run today. Very proud of everyone 🙂 GDTBAE!
TOO MANY IMPROVEMENTS from last year to count! We are all SO excited to see how you guys improve throughout the season. If you weren’t happy with how you raced, remember that there’s a whole season of training and racing and getting stronger to come…and you’ll always have teammates to be excited for who were happy with their races. Keep working hard, believing in yourselves, and having fun with each other!
Special thanks to upperclassmen for leading the young ones through warm-ups and showing them the ropes. We LOVE to see that. Keep up the great leadership.

Thank you parent volunteers. A special "shout out" to Josh Geisser who helped pull tags at the finish line. There was a need and he immediately volunteered to help. Thanks, Josh!
