2002 3A State XC Championships – 3rd place

Although he missed his senior cross country campaign due to injury, Jon’s accomplishments and resume are as impressive as they are extensive. Running varsity cross country just his sophomore and junior years, Jon finished 2nd in KingCo both years and finished 5th in district as a sophomore and then 2nd in district as a junior. At state, Jon was 26th as a sophomore (# 2 soph. in the race that year) and then 3rd as a junior, just six seconds from 1st. Jon’s 3rd place finish is second-best in school history and just the third time an IHS boy has been in the top 5. In track, Jon was a 6-time district meet qualifier and then went on to qualify for the state meet five of those times.

In the 1600m, Jon was 2nd in KingCo as a junior and senior then went on to place 6th in state as junior and 8th in state as a senior. The 3200m, however, is where Jon left his most indelible marks. As a sophomore, he was 2nd in KingCo, 3rd in district, and 9th at state. As a junior he won the KingCo title, was 2nd in district, and then 6th in state. As a senior, he won KingCo and district titles on his way to winning the state championship in 9:12.71 which is the still-standing school record.
