XC: 15:33.8 – Sun Willows G.C. (Pasco), 5000m, Individual 5th place, 2015 – Issaquah #2 All-Time

As an Issaquah freshman, Kennan Schrag qualified for the varsity XC squad in the team time trial, dropped his first 5,000-meter time of 18:45.0 to a season record 16:38.0, and qualified as an individual to the Bi-District 4A XC Championships. Ongoing improvement throughout his years at Issaquah resulted in a 5,000-meter personal best of 15:21.0 in his senior year. Kennan qualified as an individual to the 4A State Cross Country Championships in his sophomore, junior, and senior years, placing 58th, 17th, and 5th respectively. In his freshman year, the team finished a disappointing 0-6 in regular season meets. Kennan’s leadership contributed to the team’s continuous improvement over the seasons that followed. In his senior year, the team remained undefeated through the Bi-District Championships, and placed 5th in a school record 5K team average of 16:06.07 at the 4A State Cross Country Championships. Kennan wrapped up his senior year XC season with a 21st place finish at NXR Northwest, and a 10th place finish at Nike BorderClash 17 in a time of 15:52.1.

In track, Kennan focused his efforts on the 1600m and the 3200m. Freshman season bests of 4:32.4 and 9:47.4 dropped year-over-year to 4:17.47 and 9:13.98, earning the #7 and #1 positions on the Issaquah All-Time Best lists. In the 1600m, he qualified to KingCo and Bi-Districts in his sophomore, junior, and senior years. In the 3200, he qualified to KingCo all four years, competed at Bi-Districts as an alternate in his sophomore year, and qualified to Bi-Districts in his junior and senior years. 20160313_28

During his senior year, Kennan achieved a national qualifying time of 8:36.72 in the 3000m at the UW High School Invitational, allowing him to race the 2 mile at the New Balance National Indoor Championships in NYC. At Nationals, he placed 16th in an Issaquah School Record time of 9:13.81 (9:10.6 – 3200m equivalent) .Image To cap off his senior year and his time with Issaquah Boys Track & Field, Kennan, along with Jason Crandall, Luke George, and Jacob Brueckman achieved the school record in the 4x800m Relay in a time of 7:57.1.

Kennan signed with Washington State University where he competes for both their cross country and track teams.
