MEET RECAP: Spartan Jamboree

The Issaquah High School track and field team started the season off extremely well with the first meet of the year at Skyline HS, with 2 second-place team finishes and 3 individual event wins at the Spartan Jamboree.

The 4x800m relay team of Hayden Stowe, Ben Lucas, Ellie Miller, and Braydon Staples started the day, with a 3rd place finish in a time of 9:00.02. 

At the high jump pit, Issaquah claimed its first individual victory, where Carson Naehr took the high jump win with a new PR of 5’8″, a 2 inch improvement from last year. Sena Pittman claimed the Eagles first win on the track after turning in a time of 1:00.86 seconds to win the 400-meter dash, ranking her first in 4A state. 

Courtney Smith also started her season with a 4’8″ high jump, placing her second, and Domfo Abekah placed second in the long jump with a leap of 15’2″, a new PR. Joe Talluto and Ethan Blazer finished second and third, respectively, in the 100m dash with times of 11.96 and 12.01. Connor Rickey and Brennen Rickey finished second and third in the 1600m run with times of 4:26.80 and 4:34.29, while Mary Jane Harig finished third in the girl’s 1600m in a near-best time of 5:18.78. Toren Garcia clocked a near-best effort of 16.75 in the 110m hurdles, good enough for second, and we saw Maxwell Knight run a PR of 56.27 in the 400m which earned him third overall.

Closing out the evening, Issaquah’s 4x400m stole the show, with the boy’s group of Toren Garcia, Connor Rickey, Greyson Pike, and Nicolas Talluto winning in a time of 3:36.91, which currently sits at third in 4A state rankings. Our girl’s squad of Daytona Crowe, Giada Oliva, Elena Gehrke, and Sena Pittman finished second in 4:45.30.

Issaquah secured the silver in the team standings, finishing 61-46 on the boy’s side to Skyline followed by Mercer Island and Seattle Prep, and 73.5-29.5 to the Skyline ladies, followed by Mercer Island and Seattle Prep. 

Issaquah hosts Newport HS for the first regular season dual meet on Thursday March 23rd. The meet is set to begin at 4 p.m. Fly Eagles, Fly!
