MEET WEEKEND: Birger Solberg Invite, Tiger Invite, Arcadia Invite

Big weekend before the start of spring break for Issaquah, as the team split up to attend 3 separate invitationals. In the respective meets, 5 medal winning performances, 24 personal bests, and some awesome big meet experience for our budding team.

Friday night at South Pasadena High School, Brennen Rickey, Alex Yahn, and Ben Konopka all competed in the 3200m at the Tiger Invitational. Rickey ended up finishing 3rd overall in the event in a new PR of 9:25.61, which currently ranks 3rd in 4A rankings, while Yahn and Konopka finished 12th and 13th respectively and ran PRs of 9:36.42 and 9:37.56. These marks also rank in the top-9 in 4A rankings — an awesome showing for our distance crew!

Back in Bellingham, Issaquah sent a contingent to the Birger Solberg Invitational, where our hurdle crew shined on an otherwise dreary day. Sebastian Powers ran a new personal best in the 110m hurdles of 16.27, good enough to finish 3rd in the event, while Toren Garcia ran a near-best effort of 41.48 in the 300m hurdles which earned him 2nd overall. In our field events, Wyatt Chollman heaved another PR in the javelin, as he’s now up to 147’3″, which put him at 2nd overall, and Domfo Abekah competed in the triple jump, where her mark of 32’4.25″ was deserving of 3rd place.

We had two athletes qualify for the Arcadia Invitational, a national level competition in Arcadia, CA — where some of the best high school athletes in the nation competed over the weekend. Connor Rickey ran the mile, where he ran a near-best effort of 4:25.98 for 29th place overall, and Kate Yahn also raced the mile and ran 5:46.24.

All in all — an awesome weekend for Issaquah athletes! Links to all meets are linked here (Birger Solberg, Tiger, Arcadia).

Coming up, we will have our second home meet against Bellevue and Skyline on Wednesday, April 19th — events start at 4:30. We will also be sending a team down to Oregon Relays, hosted by University of Oregon, this Friday and Saturday the 21st and 22nd. Fly Eagles, Fly!
