MEET RECAP: 2023 Kingco Class Race Jamboree

Issaquah Eagles flew west for our first race of the year — the Kingco Class Races held at Lower Woodland Park in Seattle . This meet had athletes competing within and against their grade levels, where 8 races were held and scored as team races. Of those 8 races, Issaquah won 6 team scores, and had 1 individual win, and bolstered the fastest time on the boy’s side and the seventh fastest time on the girl’s side.

Beginning with our freshman boys, led by Sebastian Sengamalay, finishing 2nd with a time of 11:44.0. Our freshman girls followed, led by Sally Davis (seventh fastest girl’s time of the day), who finished 2nd overall with a time of 12:32.4. Of note, Lauren Tehero and Caroline Mullet, who finished 4th and 6th in the race, both improved their 2 mile times by nearly 15 seconds from our Issy 2 mile Time Trial, an impressive result on a much harder course! Our boys team took the victory in their race, while our freshman girls were runner-up to Mercer Island 36-43.

Our sophomore boys followed, led Nathaniel Laursen, who finished 4th in a time of 11:16.8. Next was our sophomore girls, led by Sailor Storey, who finished 3rd in her race with a time of 13:36.0. Continuing our streak, both of these teams took victories in their races!

Junior boys, led by Connor Rickey, who won our first individual victory of the day in a time of 10:13.0 (fastest boy’s time of the day), dominated the team competition with 22 points to Eastlake’s 50. Junior girls, led by XC newcomer Sena Pittman who finished 4th in 12.43.9 (ninth fastest time of the day) were second in the team standing to Eastlake 27-38.

Senior boys, who were led by Brennen Rickey with a 2nd place finish in 10:23.4, and winning the team contest over Eastlake 37-52. Our senior girls closed out the racing festivities, led by Jane Harig who finished 2nd in a time of 12:33.5 (eighth fastest time of the day), also won over Mercer Island 23-53.

When races were combined to show how the team would perform as a whole, Issy Boys won 25-67 over Eastlake, and Quah Girls finished second to Eastlake 47-55. This was an awesome way to start the season, and we are extremely eXCited for more racing opportunities!
